Monica has had a diverse and successful legal career, which has led her to focus her practice on mediation. She has made the shift from zealously advocating for her clients to compassionately helping others resolve their disputes.
Since being admitted to the Arizona Bar in 1998 she has been a prosecutor, criminal defense attorney and civil litigator practicing in the areas of criminal, bankruptcy, administrative law, educational law, complex civil litigation, insurance, real estate, landlord tenant, employment, discrimination, contract, and family law.
Monica is currently a judge pro tem with the Maricopa County Justice Courts, the Chandler Municipal Court and the Tempe Municipal Court. She is also the City of Mesa Code Compliance Hearing Officer. During her career she has been a judge pro tem with the Maricopa County Superior Court, a law professor, legal commentator/analyst and radio host.
Monica is involved in both her legal and civic communities. She is currently Secretary and Board Member for Arizona Foundation for Women, Past-President and current Board Member of the Scottsdale Bar Association, and past member/officer of her church’s board of trustees, preschool board, the Thurgood Marshall Inn of Court, and the City of Scottsdale Board of Adjustments.
Monica is often called upon as a key-note speaker, emcee, and a panelist for speaking presentations on a variety of topics to legal and non-legal groups. In the recent past she has given presentations on professionalism in the law, speaking to and working with the media, active listening, mediating, high-profile trials, ethics and Deflategate. She has also been involved with charities such as the Arizona Foundation for Women, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Lift Up America and the 15th Annual McDowell Mountain Music Festival.
Currently Monica is KTAR News’ and Arizona Sports’ legal expert. You can find her #LegallySpeaking blog containing informative posts and videos on KTAR.com. In addition, she educates the public on the legal system and issues of the day for both national and local news channels including Court TV, Fox News, HLN and CNN. She has been featured on various programs on the Investigation Discovery and the Oxygen Network.
Monica received her Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law and her Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University. Go Jacks!
