For all of you out there, including me, who expected to hear or see something interesting today in State v. Jodi, you (we) are out of luck. The oral argument scheduled for today will be CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. On October 1, 2013, Judge Stephens issued a minute entry (order) informing all that the proceedings would be closed. As such, I will not be traveling down to the courtroom today.
According to Judge Stephens, “the court finds an open proceeding for these pretrial hearings presents a CLEAR AND PRESENT THREAT to the due administration of justice…” You can read the rest of the order here. CNN was especially not happy about this and filed a request to open the hearing to the public on October 3, 2013, but there is no indication the court responded or even considered the request.
So, we will all just be waiting. If I hear anything I will update you immediately!
In the meantime, I host a radio talk show on News Talk 92.3 KTAR on Sunday nights from 6pm-8pm (when Cardinals are not playing) with Joe Huizenga so feel free to listen in and share your thoughts! (there is an app to listen and its available online if you are not in the Phoenix area.)
